Stockholm Fashion Week

Now that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Stockholm for A/W 13 has come to an end, I thought it'd be a good idea to show you some of my favourite looks from the runway!

Hunkydory collection was inspired by the 1960's and presented a minimalistic and sporty collection with a touch of attitude.

Ida Sjöstedt collection, always filled with fun and glamour, offered a great deal of crochet, sequins, midnight blue and luxurious burgundy.

This dress is just divine!!

J.Lindeberg collection was inspired by Stockholm's Stadsbibliotek (the library).

Tiger of Sweden closed Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week as per usual, with a collection of "Intellectual Clash." On the men's side there was a lot of classical tailoring and on the women's side more "boy-meets-girl."

Classic

Nocturne for Piano, No. 8 in D flat Major, Op. 27,2
Nocturne No. 2 in E flat Major, Op. 9,2
The Polish composer, Frédéric Chopin is considered one of the greatest Romantic composers. The majority of his compositions were written for the piano as a solo piece. Over 230 of Chopin's work have survived, sadly the compositions he wrote as a child have been lost.

Cello Suite Bwv1007: Prelude
Overture No.2 in B Minor: Badinerie
Air on a G String (From Overture No.3 in Bwv1068)
Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist and violinist of the Baroque period.

Requiem: Lacrimosa
Rondo Alla Turca
Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed from the age of five and performed in front of European royalty. During his time he composed over 600 works. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers. The central traits of the Classical style are all present in Mozart's music; clarity, balance and transparency.

Roots and Beginnings
Days of the Ring
Gollum's song
May It Be
The Canadian composer Howard Shore, may be one of my favourite composers. His major success came in 2001with his score to The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The score was hugely successful and he won his first Oscar, as well as a Grammy Award and nominations for a Golden Globe and a BAFTA. He also composed the music for the rest of the trilogy, as well as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. He has composed music for several different films such as: Cosmopolis, A Dangerous Method, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and many more.

Swan Lake
Waltz from "Swan Lake"
Waltz of the Flowers
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote many works which are popular with the classical music public, including Romeo and Juliet and his three ballets; The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty. Tchaikovsky's music displays an unusually wide stylistic and emotional range, from salon works of innocuous charm to symphonies of tremendous depth and power. Repetition is a natural part of Russian music- many of its folk songs are essentially a series of variations on one a sic shape or pattern of a few notes. This is a natural part of Tchaikovsky's music, his use of sequences within melodies (repeating a tune at a higher or lower pitch in the same voice) could go on for extreme length.

Re-Freshers

And so it begins - a week of madness and crazy nights! Now that I'm done with my exams, it's time to celebrate :D The Union tonight, possibly TigerTiger or Embassy tomorrow, then my friend Connor's birthday party on Saturday then dinner and a movie, Les Misérables, with my flatmates on Sunday evening to celebrate the end of exams together - I couldn't be more excited! Even though I will have lectures during the week, starting on Monday at 11am, I'm pretty sure it will be a crazy week.

Freedom, at last

Knots + Crosses

Perfection!
This outfit made me think of this song by Rebecca & Fiona:
Bullets (Nause & Adrian Lux Remix)

Sadly, it seems to be getting colder and colder for every day that passes. It has been extremely windy for the past week and whenever it snows, it looks like hail, like small snow balls - almost like styrofoam... it's weird! And whenever I make the treacherous trek to the university library I have to fight my way through the strong wind, all the while hoping I won't be thrown onto the ground by it and making a complete fool of myself. Aah, la vie en Ecosse est vraiment magnifique!
My last exam is on Thursday and then I'm finally free - thank God!

Music Monday #23

Everybody Talks - Neon Trees

America - Lana Del Rey
What can I say? I love her voice, and her album Born To Die - The Paradise Edition is magnificent.

Clique - Kanye West, JAY-Z, Big Sean
This reminds me of a night out at The Garage/Campus with my friends!

People Help The People - Birdy
Wow! I'm amazed that a 16-year old has that kind of voice! Her cover of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love" is one of my favourites!

I Knew You Were Trouble - Taylor Swift

I don't usually listen to Taylor Swift, I always feel like she keeps singing about the same thing over and over again. However, I do like this song very much and reminds me of a night out at the Union on Wednesday!

Enjoy

The Music

Usually when it comes to me finding new music, I find new/old music on Spotify. I don't even know what I did before I had Spotify! I sure as hell didn't listen to as much music as I do now, that's for sure. But usually what happens is I go on the Top Lists and browse through the playlist for every country, and every time I do I find a few new ad interesting songs.
YouTube is also a great help when it comes to music. I usually search for one song, then get lost in the millions of music videos on there. However, I also get introduced to new songs/artists/albums from my friends.
Also, usually if I'm watching a movie and I think to myself "Hey, I really like this song" I will most likely Google the soundtrack list for that movie. For example, when I was watching the movie Project X, I remember really liking the music and so, I opened up my laptop and Googled the soundtrack! I did the same for Drive, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Runaways and many more.

The famous song from Project X: Pursuit of Happiness

Tomorrowland is one of the largest electronic dance music festivals in the world. It takes place in the town of Boom in Belgium. The latest event, which was the eight edition of the festival, since its opening in 2005, was held between July 27 and 29, 2012. Artist in attendance included Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, Fatboy Slin, Hardwell, Nicky Romero, Laidback Luke, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Knife Party and LMFAO among many others.
Even though I haven't attended the festival, yet, Tomorrowland has introduced me to a lot of songs, which I now consider some of my favourites.

Teenage Crime - Adrian Lux

The Way We See The World - Afrojack, Dmitri Vegas, Like Mike & Nervo

Songs from Memories - part 3

212 - Azealia Banks, Lazy Jay
The first time I heard this song was on my 18th birthday. My friend Lina introduced it to me. With all songs, you have to get used to them and take your time to feel the rhythm. But after a few repeats of this song, I was loving it and it's now one of my favourites! This song doesn't remind me of a specific time, but it sure does make me happy!

Hard to Concentrate + Torture Me + If + Especially in Michigan + She's Only 18 - Red Hot Chili Peppers
For a long time, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been one of my favourite bands - merely because I just love the sound of the bass which is present in pretty much every song as well as the sound of the lead singers voice, Anthony Kiedis. This takes me back to my last year of High School, specifically fall 2011. I would listen to their album Stadium Arcadium, while I was biking back and forth to school. It feels like a lifetime ago..

Queens of Noise + Hollywood + I Love Playin' With Fire - The Runaways
I started listening to the The Runaways after I saw the Movie The Runaways back in the summer of 2011.

Happiness Is A Warm Gun + All You Need Is LoveBecause + Across The Universe + While My Guitar Gently Weeps - Across The Universe (soundtrack)
I remember how I felt after watching this movie for the first time - I was very confused, and didn't really understand what I has just seen. Nonetheless, the covers of The Beatles songs in this movie are extraordinary! And almost every time my friend Helen and I see each other, we sing the song Because at least once, haha!

Mentally Drained..

Two down, one more to go! It could've been worse, but I've had the hardest time trying to concentrate on my exam studying these past 6 days :(
Anyway, on a happier note I'm not doing anything at all today, and that feels damn good! I had a nice, long sleep in this morning - well deserved I think, after the complete mess I was yesterday.
But tomorrow, I just have to get back on that horse and start studying again. This time, for my multiple choice Psychology exam - which is on Thursday next week.
Anyways, I am very much looking forward to refreshers like I mentioned before. The Societies and Sports fair is on again, and I've been thinking of joining the lacrosse team. I've never really played before, but my flatmate Michele is on the team and she says it's a lot of fun! So I might try that; mostly because I know how fun they have at their socials :)

Soundtrack of my day: Bruno

Music Monday #22

Yo yo dudes! Like promised, yet another music Monday. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do! :D

Bulletproof - La Roux
I know this is an old-ish song but I found it in my Spotify playlist and have been enjoying it quite a bit. It takes me back to a camping trip in summer 2010. My crazy friend Helen and I listened to this song every day for a whole week!

Don't You (Forget about me) - Simple Minds
The Breakfast Club!! If you haven't already seen this movie, then where have you been? Go and see it :)

Love is All I Got - Feed Me & Crystal Fighters
At first, I didn't know what to think of this song. But now, after listening to it a couple of times, I LIKE IT!

It Will Rain - Bruno Mars
Oh Bruno, I love your voice!! Another glorious song I stumbled upon from my Spotify playlist.

Let it Roll - Flo Rida
I feel like all of his songs sound the same... Or maybe that's just me :o Nonetheless, it's a great tune.

Bellas Finals: Price tag/Don't you (forget about me)/Give me everything/Just the way you are/Party in the USA/Turn the beat around - The Barden Bellas
Great mash-up! This is from the movie Pitch Perfect - which I actually quite enjoyed, it was really humorous!

Cat

This is what I find myself doing as I'm taking a break from studying:

Wednesday 9 January 2013

Study, Study, Study...

EXAM schedule:
Sociology: Tuesday 15th Jan. 9-11
Management: Tuesday 15th Jan. 15-17
Psychology: Thursday 24th Jan. 11-12

UPDATE:
Music Mondays will be uploaded on their usual schedule, so expect #22 on Monday the 14th!
What else? Oh yes, I was pleasantly surprised by how warm (if you even can call it that) it is here. I've been so used to the very cold weather back in Sweden. It was 8-10°C today and the sun was shining brightly all day! It was so nice :)
Other than that, I can't wait for re-freshers which starts on Friday the 25th of January! My flatmates and I are planning on going out for dinner together in the evening and then enjoying the freedom for a while! :D
Have you peeps seen the new One Direction music video for their song "Kiss You"? the first time I watched it I laughed the whole way through it! It's very amusing, especially the scene when they're skiing ;)

Sälen 2012/2013

I'm back at home now after five days of skiing! We spent the week in a little house in the Swedish mountains. We also drove to the Norwegian ski resort Trysil, which is roughly a one hour drive away.

Day 5: In the evening we had drinks at Högfjällshotellet.
I had a non-alcoholic drink because I was the designated driver! Nonetheless, it was delticous!
Thankfully, this year it wasn't absolutely freezing. The temperature stayed around 1 to -7°C for the whole week, so I can't complain ;)
