Happy New Year!!

I am currently at a ski resort with the fam and family friends in the north-west of Sweden. We arrived yesterday, and for the following week we are going to be skiing every day if the weather and temperature allows it. Hopefully it won't be as cold it was when we were here a coupe of years ago. I think the average temperature for the whole week was around -16°C to -18°C. I can tell you that it was not very fun to be freezing the whole day, haha.

I hope you have a fun New Years Eve!

What are your plans for the year?

Songs from Memories - part 1

If I could, I would share my entire Spotify playlist with you guys. Currently I have 287 tracks on it which is around 18 hours of awesome music.
For some reason I felt as though I could tell a short story of my life with the help of my music on the playlist:

This song reminds me so much of Spring 2010. The strongest memory with this song is when I was getting ready to go to a friends party. I was listening to it non-stop at that time and every time I listen to this song I immediately think of that night!

These three songs remind me of a trip to Italy with my Italian class in May 2011. We went to Lago di Garda and lived in bungalows on a camping ground for a week. Every night, these were the songs we played over and over again and obviously I can't help but think of that week of fun and crazy memories!

One word: Europarty! Oh my gosh, haha. So many craaaazy memories! In March 2011, I attended the Europarty in Brussels which the European Schools in Europe host every year. I had a great time to say the least :) I had just found these song before I went to Brussels and when they played the songs at the party I was in heaven!

These two songs remind me of my trip to London this summer to celebrate my two best friends', Helen and Jenny, 18th birthday! The song "This is Love" was played several times on the radio in the car.

One word: Graduation! These songs immediately remind me of my graduation this summer! It was one of the best days in my life :) Need I say more? tsss

Christmas Nails

This year I decided to glam up my black outfit with some Christmas inspired nails!
I borrowed the two nail polishes below from my Mum. I painted one finger on each hand with the gold, and the rest of my nails with the beautiful wine coloured varnish.

Secret Charm

While I was stranded in London Heathrow I was strolling around in Terminal 5 and found a section in the perfume shop which sold Victoria's Secret scents. I bought two bottles of perfumes which smell divine!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the first installment in Peter Jackson's new Middle-Earth trilogy. Based on the beloved fantasy world created by author J.R.R. Tolkien's 1937 novel The Hobbit. As he did with his Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson shot the three Hobbit films back to back on location in New Zealand. There are three parts; part one, An Unexpected Journey; part two, The Desolation of Smaug; part 3, There and Back Again - due for theatrical release 2013 and 2014, respectively.
Set in Middle-Earth sixty years before The Lord of the Rings, the story tells of the Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who is hired by the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) to accompany thirteen dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on a quest across Middle-Earth to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon, Smaug.
The film premiered in Wellington, New Zealand on 28 November 2012 and was released internationally on 13 December 2012, where it has since received mixed critical reaction.

Personally, I thought the movie was extraordinary and really captivating, despite the length of it, 169mins. I think The Hobbit is the heart that drives The Lord of The Rings, so there's an incredible good humour and buoyancy and masterful storytelling.
I am such a huge fan of Lord of The Rings, and thought director Peter Jackson and his crew did such an amazing job on that trilogy, I couldn't have thought of some other director creating The Hobbit

Fun Facts:
- The shoot ran for 266 days, notably the same as LoTR
- During the time of filming, they spent $380,000 (AUD) on coffee
- The Hobbit is a children's book
- Tolkien almost didn't finish the book
- Thranduil (the father of Legolas) make his first on screen appearance. In Tolkien's Hobbit he was called "The King of Mirkwood," and his full name was only revealed in LoTR
Stephen Fry makes an appearance as the grubby Lord of Laketown
-  J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the first line of The Hobbit – “In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit”
Bilbo Baggins, the reluctant “halfling” of the title is aged 51 at the start of his heroic quest

UPDATE

Where to start?

At 13.00 on Saturday the 15th of December, I left for the airport. I was ready and checked in, and only needed to drop my bag off at the airport. Once I get to the counter, they tell me my flight to London Heathrow had been delayed by two hours and that I was going to miss my connection flight to Stockholm later that evening. They tell me to go stand in another queue along with the rest of the people from my flight and wait for my turn to get my tickets sorted. After waiting for an hour the only option they had for me was that I to go to London at 17.25 and sleep in a hotel for the night, and get the early morning flight out of Heathrow to Arlanda the next morning, as in today, Sunday 16th of December.
After a hectic day of rushing about at the airports, standing in numerous long queues for more than five hours in total, I was ready for a hot bath and a big bed. Thankfully, the hotel they put me had those and I was so relieved when I walked into my hotel room! I didn't sleep much, because I had to get up at 4.30 to get the 4.55 bus to Heathrow to catch my flight at 7.15
I was so excited when I looked outside my airplane window and saw the white landscape below - beautiful! When the plane landed I couldn't have been more relieved :')
All in all, I had been traveling for 22 hours until I got back home in Stockholm! -.-

Jake Bugg

My new obsession: Jake Bugg
An 18-year old English singer-songwriter who's work is inspired by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Donovan. I can definitely hear The Beatles-inspiration in his songs - I myself am a huge Beatles fan! Maybe that's why I like his music so much ;)
His debut album Jake Bugg was released on October 15th 2012. His song "Two Fingers" charted 33 in the UK while his album reached the top as number one in the UK charts.

A little taste of his music:

Now that the first term of uni is over and done with (hurray!), I thought it would be a good idea to inform you of my thoughts and experiences of it all. Hope you enjoy!
Move-in Weekend
It was one hectic weekend, filled with lots of emotions. I arrived here early in the morning on Thursday the 13th of September with my mum & dad. Thursday and Friday consisted of shopping for things for my room, exploring the city and the university campus.
Saturday the 15th was the official first day of moving in. We packed up all of my things in the hotel room, hopped on a bus to Hillhead (the little student accommodation "village"where I currently reside), signed in, got my keys and found my flat. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my bedroom door. I wasn't expecting it to be so clean and tidy, haha!
The rest of the day we spent unpacking and setting everything up in my room. I met my lovely flatmates Michele, Paola, Hannah and Sarah in person for the first time and chatted for a while.
That evening, my parents and I went out for dinner at Wagamama's in the city centre. I didn't sleep in my room that night because I was so exhausted and overwhelmed to go back to Hillhead (which is about a 15-20 minute bus ride from the city, and a 10-15 minute walk from uni), so I stayed in the hotel.
Sunday consisted of pretty much the same thing, except that night I went out with my flatmates for the first time! Which was great :)
Settling in
It took about one-two weeks for me to actually realise that all of this was for real. During Fresher's week I was so busy having fun, I didn't really have time to myself and sit and think about what was going on.
I quickly got into my daily routine of going to lectures, tutorial and practicals all week long. However, it was a little difficult getting used to the teaching style that the uni has.
Settling into a new country and a new way of living always takes a little bit of time. I'm quite used to having to adapt to a new environment and being open-minded. I enjoy experiencing a new way of living - it's always exciting!
School Work
One thing that every university has in common, is the amount of reading you have to do. I knew this beforehand, but it's hard to keep up with all the reading when you have three subjects and they all demand the same amount of effort from you. Also, being an independent worker is key to accomplishment. No one is going to tell you to do your assignments and reading - it's all up to you. Thankfully, I understand the importance of this, and usually I'm pretty good at managing my time.
This term I studied: Psychology (which is my degree), Sociology (a module) and Managing Organisations (another module). For Psychology I had four hours of lectures a week, a two hour practical and a two hour workshop every fortnight (ever two weeks in other words). For Sociology I had two hours of lectures a week, and a one hour tutorial a week. For Managing Organisations I had two hours of lectures a week along with a one hour tutorial every fortnight. All in all I was at uni roughly 14-15 hours a week, plus all the reading, the visits to the library, and all of the time spent on the assignments etc.
Societies
Even before arriving, the university compelled us to join at least one society. Why is this you may wonder. Well, it's very important not to get lost in your studies - which can be very easy. A society is a wonderful way of escaping the hectic student life and focusing on something other than your school work.
During Fresher's week there was a Societies & Sports Fayre where they informed us on what they had to offer and so on. I joined the Dance Society, Nordic Society and the Psychology Society.
Every society has a membership fee which is mandatory if you want to join, and usually, if they have organised an event you have to pay £1-3 to take part. For non-members it's usually a little more expensive, but even non-members are allowed to come along to the events! I myself, have been to many events, such as pub crawls for example, organised by other societies. It's a great way to meet new people and mingle with the older students.

One thing I wished I would have done more this term is sight-seeing. Several of my friends have gone to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, St. Andrews etc. for a weekend to experience the beauty of this country. Hopefully I will have the chance to go someplace next term with a group of friends!
However, I did have the opportunity to go to London for the weekend and I had an amazing time! :D
I have considered getting a part time job to earn some extra money. But I decided that this first term, I was going to focus on settling in, and getting used to my new life at uni. Next term I will most likely apply for a part time job, as a sales assistant, barista, waitress...the list goes on.

If there's anything you'd like to know more about, or something I haven't mentioned that you'd like to know about, comment below!! :)

Save Our Planet

I couldn't help noticing the beautiful music in the documentary HOME, which I told you guys about the other day.
Armand Amar who composed the extraordinary music, is an Israeli-born French composer, who grew up in Morocco. In 2010 he won the César Award for Best Music Written for a Film for Le Concert.
He composed the beautifully compelling music for HOME, which I listened to the whole day yesterday. I can't stop listening, it's so beautiful!
